Terrion Arnold’s NFL future is starting to take shape, even as his legal situation remains unresolved.
The former Alabama cornerback was arrested just over two weeks ago on felony robbery and kidnapping charges, accusations that carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. Arnold and his defense have strongly denied the allegations, which are tied to what authorities described as “payback” for a robbery that happened at an Airbnb Arnold was renting in February.
Detroit moved quickly after the arrest. The Lions released Arnold five days later, despite his legal team succeeding in getting him out on bail so he could keep playing while the case works its way through the system.
Even with all of that hanging over him, Arnold is drawing interest around the league. His agent, Nicole Lynn, testified in court that four teams have reached out, and she expects Arnold to sign a contract within the next 45 days.
Those teams, per reports, are the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, and Seattle Seahawks.
Houston appears to be the most advanced possibility right now. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Arnold completed a physical with the Texans this week, a significant step if the team is moving toward a deal.
Arnold’s connection to Houston runs through familiar Alabama ties. He shares an agent with former Crimson Tide teammate Will Anderson Jr., and Lynn helped negotiate Anderson’s 3-year, $150 million extension with the Texans this offseason. Houston also has two other former Alabama players on the roster in Anderson and linebacker Henry To’oTo’o, and the team is coached by former Alabama linebacker DeMeco Ryans.
Nick Saban also backed Arnold with a character reference to the judge in support of bail, and that kind of endorsement could matter as NFL teams weigh the risk attached to the charges.
Still, the legal standard remains what it always is: Arnold is presumed innocent, and the accusations will have to be proven in court.
For now, though, the football side of the story is moving. Arnold appears headed toward a second NFL chance while his case is still pending, and it sounds like it may only be a matter of time before a team decides to take that swing.
