By 9:42 a.m. on Sunday, the account named Jared Leavitt - and widely treated as his, @Gride5656 - had replied to a New York street video that was captioned, “People walking dogs in New York seems to offend the invading Islamic horde.” In the reply, the account allegedly wrote, “Yep the take over is here,” Leavitt allegedly wrote.
BroBible said it could not independently confirm the handle, even though the name and the Sam-related posts matched up. The Arizona Republic treated the pattern as Jared Leavitt’s. The paper also said similar posts were not new.
That’s where the mess really sits for LSU. The quarterback is trying to hold onto his job after a rough night in Oxford, and the account connected to his last name was suddenly in the middle of a public argument about Muslims.
LSU fans were already focused on the tape. They did not need the family name dragging the story somewhere else before noon.
Jared Leavitt is a former BYU linebacker. Sam transferred from Arizona State to Baton Rouge, and the family already knows how quickly a football name turns into online material.
Sam’s brother, Dallin, made it to the NFL. Jared’s post only made the spotlight hotter.
Leavitt was supposed to be the piece that helped make Kiffin’s first LSU roster work. All offseason, analysts pointed to the need to keep the quarterback healthy after the foot issues in Tempe.
The loss to Ole Miss already put the offense under the microscope. The father’s reply about an “Islamic takeover” put the last name there too.
No apology has been posted from the account, and LSU has not had to answer for it yet. That probably won’t stay quiet for long if the replies keep piling up.
Sam still has to play the next one. Now the week is about more than football.
