One of the top uncommitted names in the class of 2027 is off the board, and Texas came away with the prize.
Interior offensive lineman Ismael Camara announced Saturday that he is committing to the Longhorns, picking Texas over SMU, LSU and Oregon. The 6-foot-6, 335-pound prospect is ranked by Rivals’ industry rankings as the No. 4 interior offensive lineman, the No. 4 player in Texas and the No. 29 overall prospect in the class.
Camara’s rise has been fast. His 2025 season at Gilmer High School was his first varsity football campaign, and he arrived in Texas from France before his sophomore year of high school. He also competes in track and field for Gilmer, throwing shot put and discus.
In a June scouting report, 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks called Camara an "elite offensive line prospect with a rare combination of high-end physical tools and functional athleticism".
Both 247Sports and Rivals have drawn a comparison between Camara and former Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor, who was selected in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft by the Miami Dolphins.
For Texas, Camara is the highest-rated of its five offensive line commitments in the 2027 class. He joins Brian Swanson, the No. 17 offensive tackle in the cycle, as one of the Longhorns’ two in-state blue-chip offensive line pledges. Swanson committed to Texas on June 17.
Camara is also the third five-star commitment in the cycle for Texas. Cornerback John Meredith, the No. 2 overall prospect in the class, committed to the Longhorns on June 19. Wide receiver Easton Royal, the No. 1 player at his position, has stayed committed to Texas since November despite pressure from other SEC programs to flip him.
The loss stings for LSU and Oregon, both of which already have blue-chip interior offensive line commitments in place. LSU landed Terrance Smith on June 10, giving the Tigers a top-10 interior offensive line pledge. But the Camara miss means LSU has now watched a second five-star slip away in recent weeks after Albert Simien, the No. 2 interior offensive lineman in the class and a Louisiana native, chose Notre Dame on June 26.
Oregon added top-20 interior offensive line prospect Gus Corsair on May 7 and also has three-star Lex Mailangi in its 2027 class.
SMU entered the race with the smallest class of the group. The Mustangs’ 2027 haul stands at seven commitments, with only two blue-chip prospects. Their interior offensive line pledge is high-end three-star Qua Ford, who ranks No. 34 at the position.

Alabamas non-conference ledger still has a few stubborn blemishes, the kind that stand out because of how often the Crimson Tide have scheduled aggressively over the years. The list of teams Alabama has faced but never beaten includes a mix of Power Four and Group of Six programs, with UCF, Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Utah among the notable holdouts on the Power Four side, while Northern Illinois and Rice also remain on the wrong end of the Tides history.
The scheduling challenge only gets trickier as conference expansion keeps squeezing the calendar, making it harder to line up those clean, high-profile chances to settle old scores.
