Alabama football is gearing up for the 2026 season, but they’ll have to navigate spring practice without several key players. Head coach Kalen DeBoer shared that linebacker Jah-Marien Latham is sidelined as he recovers from a neck injury sustained in 2025. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack had confirmed Latham’s return earlier this year, but his spring absence is a hurdle for the Crimson Tide.
Joining Latham on the sidelines are defensive lineman London Simmons and offensive lineman William Sanders. Their absence leaves Alabama with some adjustments to make as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Bray Hubbard, the reigning first-team All-SEC safety, will also be under "limited contact" conditions, according to DeBoer. This cautious approach is understandable given his importance to the team’s defensive strategy.
DeBoer emphasized that there haven’t been any new developments in practice so far. Reflecting on last year’s challenges, where two position groups were hit hard, he noted that the team is in a better place this year. The focus is on progression and readiness for A-Day, Alabama’s annual spring game.
"We're just focused on what's next," DeBoer said. "We want to get out there, have fun, practice, improve, and scrimmage. That’s our expectation for A-Day."
Alabama will wrap up its spring practice with A-Day on Saturday, April 11, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. CT. The event promises to be an exciting showcase of the team’s preparation and potential for the season ahead.
