Germie Bernard Gets a Surprise from Randy Moss After “You Got Mossed” Moment vs. Oklahoma
Alabama had just wrapped up a lifting session ahead of the Rose Bowl when wide receiver Germie Bernard got a surprise he won’t forget anytime soon. Quarterback Ty Simpson walked over with a box and a grin.
“Ty was like, ‘We’ve got a present for Unc here,’” Bernard recalled. “I’m like, ‘What’s the present?’”
Inside? A pair of white gloves signed by none other than Randy Moss.
And not just any gloves - these were emblazoned with the iconic phrase: *“You Got Mossed!” *
It was a nod to that catch Bernard made in the College Football Playoff win over Oklahoma - the kind of one-on-one, high-point grab that instantly brings Moss’s legendary leaping catches to mind. The play lit up social media, drew praise from fans and analysts alike, and clearly caught the attention of the Hall of Famer himself.
“I couldn’t let Ty down,” Bernard said, referring to the trust Simpson showed by putting the ball up in a contested situation. “He trusted me to throw that one-on-one ball. I couldn’t let him down in that moment.”
And Bernard delivered - not just with a highlight-reel catch, but with a momentum-shifting play that helped Alabama surge past Oklahoma in the second half. It wasn’t just flashy; it was clutch.
“I’ve made a few cool catches in my career,” Bernard said. “But that’s definitely at the top.
To be able to do that in a critical game at a critical moment, that’s something that you dream for. For that to come true is really, really cool.”
Now, with the Rose Bowl looming, Bernard and the Crimson Tide are locked in on their next challenge: a showdown with top-ranked Indiana on Jan. 1. It’s a heavyweight matchup with a spot in the national championship game on the line.
And here’s a fun wrinkle - Randy Moss, who sent Bernard the gloves, has ties to Indiana’s secondary. So while Bernard already has one gift from Moss, he might have to earn the next one the hard way - by getting open and making plays against a defense that’s likely been reminded of what he did to Oklahoma.
“It was a dope moment,” Bernard said of receiving the gloves. “I didn’t expect that to come.”
But if he keeps making plays like that, he might want to make some space in the locker for more surprises.
