Alabamas Run Game Suddenly Faces Its Biggest Test Yet

As Alabama gears up for a crucial face-off with LSU, the team intensifies its focus on revitalizing a struggling run game to overcome the SEC powerhouse's formidable defense.

Alabama’s running game has hit a rough patch at the wrong time, and now the Crimson Tide are treating the next few days like a fix-it window.

After a strong start on the ground, Alabama has seen the rushing attack stall in back-to-back games. The Tide managed just 54 rushing yards against Tennessee and 68 against Texas A&M, a sharp drop from what had been their lowest total of the season before that - 124 yards against South Carolina.

The early numbers told a different story. Alabama averaged 3.4 rushing touchdowns per game over its first five outings. Over the last two, that number has fallen to .5.

“Just really hammering down on it,” interior offensive lineman Mal Waldrep Jr. said Thursday after practice. “Getting in the film room.

Everybody getting extra work in and being on the same page about it. We know what we have to do moving forward.

We have to be able to run the ball. We really started to hammer down on it.

Not like we weren’t before, but at the same time, it’s more of an emphasis now than it was because it’s a priority we need to be able to run the ball.”

The timing matters because LSU brings a much stiffer front than the last two opponents. Tennessee entered with the No. 42 run defense, allowing 121.6 yards per game, while Texas A&M sits at No. 55 and gives up 132.6.

LSU is a different challenge entirely. The Tigers are ranked No. 6 against the run and are allowing only 85.4 yards per game.

That sets up a clear test for Alabama: if the Tide can get traction against LSU, that would suggest the ground game can hold up against just about anyone.

Running back Daniel Hill pointed to the basics as the answer.

“Just going back to the basics,” running back Daniel Hill said of how they’re working to get the rushing attack rolling again. “Doing the little things right.

Just trying to figure out what we can do better, just as a whole. I don’t say it’s on one particular group.

O-linemen, running backs, things like that. It’s on the offense as a whole.

We’re working every day to get it back right.”

No. 10 Alabama and No.

15 LSU both have open weekends before meeting on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. The game is set for 2:30 p.m. on ABC.

Former Alabama Rusher Sparks New Debate After Another Career Twist

Noah Carters path has taken another sharp turn, and it adds a fresh layer to a season that already had plenty of uncertainty around the former Alabama edge rusher. After transferring to Georgia Tech, Carter managed to appear in four games this year and still flashed the kind of pass-rush ability that made him a name to watch, finishing with three sacks even while dealing with injury issues.

Georgia Tech has now removed Carter from its football program, but the school has not offered an official explanation for the move. For Alabama fans who followed his development in Tuscaloosa, the latest twist only deepens the question of where his career goes next after a brief but productive stretch in Atlanta. [Read more 🡒]

Alabamas Bye Week Suddenly Comes With Real Stakes For The Tide

Alabamas open date arrives at a useful moment on the schedule, but it does not come with much room to exhale. The Tide have been dealing with injuries to key players, and a week off gives the staff time to reset, regroup and get a better sense of where the roster stands before the stretch run. Even without a game this Saturday, the attention around Tuscaloosa is still squarely on the bigger picture.

The rest of the SEC could make this bye week feel even more consequential, with results around the conference shaping Alabamas path to the SEC championship game and the College Football Playoff. And while the focus inside the program is on the season in front of it, there is also outside chatter about Kalen DeBoer and possible future coaching openings at USC, adding another layer to a week that already carries more weight than a typical pause in the schedule. Alabamas Playoff Path Just Got Tighter After Georgias Latest Statement

Georgias latest win over Florida did more than keep the Bulldogs rolling in the SEC East. It also sharpened the pressure on the rest of the league, including Alabama, as the conference race and the College Football Playoff picture continue to tighten with every late-season result. With championship projections and playoff contenders being sorted by recent form and what still lies ahead, the margin for error is getting smaller by the week.

For Alabama, that means the path forward is starting to depend as much on what happens around the league as what the Crimson Tide do themselves. Injuries and schedule difficulty are part of the equation now, along with the ripple effects from Georgias continued hold on the division and the broader SEC standings. The next stretch will go a long way toward determining whether Alabama stays in the mix or gets squeezed by the results stacking up in front of it. [Read more 🡒]
