No. 10 Alabama and Florida State are waiting out a lightning delay in Tuscaloosa after warmups were stopped more than an hour before kickoff at Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
Lightning was detected within eight miles of the stadium, and the field was cleared while players headed back to the locker room. The game was scheduled to kick off at 2:45 p.m.
CT, though no updated time was announced in the initial delay notice. Fans were told they could stay inside the stadium, and UA Safety directed people in the campus area to move immediately to designated shelters at Autherine Lucy, Drummond Lyon and Lloyd Halls near the Quad.
Stadium gates were also opened to ticketholders.
It was not raining inside the stadium when the announcement first came down, but the weather quickly changed, with rain beginning to fall at Bryant-Denny.
The matchup features Florida State (1-1, 0-1 ACC) against Alabama (2-0, 1-0 SEC) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Crimson Tide hold a 3-2-1 edge in the all-time series, which began on Oct.
23, 1965. Neither program has put together back-to-back wins in the series, and this will be the first meeting in Tuscaloosa since 1974.
The last time these teams met, Florida State stunned Alabama 31-17 at Doak Campbell Stadium on Aug. 30, 2025.
That game marked Alabama’s first season-opening loss since 2001. Ty Simpson made his first career start at quarterback for the Crimson Tide, and after Alabama opened with a 17-play touchdown drive, the offense stalled.
The Tide also had trouble slowing Florida State on the ground, giving up 230 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 49 carries. Tommy Castellanos led the Seminoles with 152 passing yards, 78 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
Alabama comes in off a 45-17 road win at Kentucky on Sept. 12.
The Crimson Tide trailed 17-13 at halftime before UA captains Ryan Coleman-Williams, Zabien Brown and Bray Hubbard, among others, delivered a message in the locker room. Alabama then ripped off 32 unanswered points.
Keelon Russell and the offensive line had a rough first half, with Russell turning it over three times and getting sacked four times. But the run game found its rhythm after halftime, and Daniel Hill posted a career-best 104 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
Inside linebackers Luke Metz and Caleb Woodson were huge in the win, combining for 20 tackles, two sacks from Woodson and a pick-six by Metz.
Florida State’s most recent game was a 27-24 home loss to then-No. 19 SMU on Sept.
- Ashton Daniels tied the game early in the fourth quarter with a 39-yard touchdown pass to Samuel Singleton Jr., but SMU answered with a 20-yard game-winning field goal with 21 seconds left.
The Mustangs finished with more than 200 additional yards, seven more first downs and six more third downs, but four turnovers helped keep Florida State close. Ousmane Kromah was the Seminoles’ top offensive performer, rushing for 116 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
The game is being carried on the Crimson Tide Sports Network with Chris Stewart on play-by-play, Tyler Watts on color, Damion Square on sideline duties and Roger Hoover hosting.
