Alabama's O-Line Struggles to Rebuild After Major Losses

Alabama's offensive line rebuilds with fresh faces and new strategies, as coaches work to overcome last season's departures and aim for cohesive progress.

Alabama's offensive line is in the midst of a crucial transformation. After losing four starters from last year, the team is focused on rebuilding a unit that didn't quite meet the high standards set over the past two decades, particularly in the run game. As spring practice kicks off, new offensive line coach Adrian Klemm and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb are at the helm of this rebuild.

It's a work in progress, and Grubb acknowledges that the line is still finding its footing. “It’s a ways away,” he admits.

The challenge lies in integrating new pieces and developing cohesion among the players. The left tackle position shows some promise, but there's still much to iron out.

Key positions need solidifying before the season opener, particularly the tackle spots and center. Fortunately, right tackle Michael Carroll returns to provide some stability, lining up opposite redshirt freshman Jackson Lloyd. The center position sees transfer Racin Delgatty stepping up impressively in early practices.

“But it starts with Jackson and Michael,” Grubb emphasizes. “And really the center position, Racin Delgatty has been doing an awesome job.

He’s quickly taken the reins, and I’m excited to see him out there. But Jackson Lloyd is a standout - a player we’re really thrilled about as our left tackle.”

While the line might not hit All-American levels by A-Day on Saban Field, progress is essential. If Alabama aims to elevate its run game from last season, this line will need to come together and rise to the challenge.
