Alabama’s linebacker tandem of Caleb Woodson and Luke Metz is already making noise, and after the Crimson Tide’s 45-17 win over Kentucky, the two looked every bit like a pair built to drive the defense all season long.
Woodson and Metz both finished as Alabama’s leading tacklers against the Wildcats. Woodson’s day went well beyond volume: he piled up two tackles for loss and two sacks. Metz delivered the game’s first points for the Crimson Tide, jumping a throw from Kenny Minchey and taking it back for a touchdown.

Afterward, Woodson was asked what it’s like sharing the field with Metz, and he didn’t hesitate to frame it as a perfect match.
“We are the same way, wired,” Woodson said. “We sell out for our team.
We are really intense and then we’re dialed in. We study together.
So, we know what’s coming. He is a really great partner to have along with QB Reese and the other guys that roll in there.”
The Alabama defense set the tone throughout the afternoon, giving up only one offensive touchdown and a field goal. Kalen DeBoer said the unit’s work helped pull Kentucky away from what it wanted to do.
“We gave them the seven points, at the beginning,” DeBoer said. “We really gave them another three on the field goal at the end of the half.
They hit the one scramble, I guess. I felt like we really were doing a good job of keeping them under wraps, defensively most of the game, and then when we started getting the lead, I think the momentum and now we started playing from the lead.
They can’t play their game, and they’re forced to throw it a little bit more, and then our pass rush gets home.”
