Alabamas Kicking Pressure Just Got Real Before LSU

After a rare stumble, Alabama's kicker Conor Talty demonstrates his mental toughness and readiness for high-pressure moments ahead of their clash with LSU.

Conor Talty’s first misses of the season came at a tough time for Alabama, but the Crimson Tide kicker has already shown he can answer back.

Talty entered Saturday’s 31-20 win over Texas A&M having made 15 straight field goal attempts dating back to last season. That run ended early when he missed from 36 yards on Alabama’s second offensive possession. He later drilled a 47-yarder, then missed again from 42 yards in the third quarter.

Even with those two misses, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said Wednesday that the response matters most.

"I know he’s disappointed, and he’s been through it," Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said during Wednesday's SEC coaches teleconference. "You know, he’s not perfect in practice through eight weeks and fall camp, too.

So there’s a response every day in practice, and a confidence that gets built and knowing what your mindset has to be to respond. Obviously that’s on another level when you’re in the game.

Each kick is it’s own kick, so you can’t sit there and think about what you did right or wrong. You’ve just got to go trust and believe that you have the skillset and just get your mind int he right place and be confident to go kick the next one."

Talty’s season line is still solid. He’s 11-for-13 on field goals and has stayed perfect on 48 extra-point tries. After an uneven junior season in 2025, the offseason became a chance to tighten up the mental side of the job, and that was a major part of the work that helped him win the starting placekicking role.

Alabama also brought in Marshall transfer Lorcan Quinn this offseason to push for the job, but Talty earned the placekicking role while Quinn has handled kickoffs.

With Alabama on its bye week, the Crimson Tide didn’t practice Tuesday as usual, but DeBoer said Talty looked sharp Wednesday morning.

"I saw him in practice today go out there and execute all his kicks and thought he looked really good," DeBoer said.

Now comes the next challenge. No.

10 Alabama (6-2, 4-2 SEC) heads next week to No. 15 LSU (6-2, 3-2 SEC), and Death Valley has been a difficult place for Crimson Tide kickers before.

For Talty, it’s the kind of setting that will show whether he can quickly put Texas A&M behind him and settle back in.

Former Alabama Assistant Just Addressed Those Power Four Rumors

Charles Huff has been a familiar name in coaching circles for a while, and his current success at Memphis has naturally put him on the radar as Power Four openings start to circulate. The former Alabama assistant spent time at Marshall and Southern Miss before landing the Tigers job, and his name has recently been floated in connection with Baylor, Maryland and NC State as those programs sort through their next steps.

Huff addressed the chatter in a press conference and made it clear he has not been contacted about any of those vacancies. He also pointed out what usually happens in coaching search season, noting that movement tends to come after the year is over, which keeps the focus on the stretch run for now even as the rumor mill keeps turning. Alabamas Playoff Push Now Rests On These Overlooked Difference-Makers

With Alabama heading into a critical matchup against LSU, the stakes around the final month of the regular season are suddenly hard to miss. The Crimson Tides College Football Playoff hopes could be shaped as much by the players who have been easiest to overlook as by the stars everyone already knows, and that has put a fresh spotlight on the supporting cast around the roster.

Among the names drawing attention are the cornerbacks lined up opposite Zabien Brown, pass rusher Yhonzae Pierre, running back Daniel Hill, offensive lineman Racin Delgatty and quarterback Keelon Russell. Their production, roles and health will matter in different ways as Alabama tries to keep its season on track, and the margin for error only gets smaller from here. [Read more 🡒]

Alabama Heads Into LSU Week With One Encouraging Trend Under DeBoer

After eight straight games, Alabama finally gets a bye week to catch its breath, and the timing could not be much better with injuries piling up and a big LSU showdown looming on the other side. Team captain Ryan Coleman-Williams is trending toward playing in the next game, which gives the Tide at least a little optimism as Kalen DeBoer and his staff try to get a battered roster closer to full strength.

The encouraging part for Alabama is what has happened coming out of bye weeks under DeBoer. The Tide have won all four of those games and done so by comfortable margins, a useful trend to lean on as they head into a matchup that should carry real College Football Playoff weight. LSU, coached by Lane Kiffin, will bring plenty of attention and pressure with it, and Alabama's ability to reset this week could matter as much as anything else in what comes next. [Read more 🡒]
