Alabamas Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. Exit Raises A Bigger Accountability Issue

Cam Newton weighs in on Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.'s dismissal from the Alabama football team as he underscores the crucial lessons of accountability for young athletes.

Cam Newton didn’t sugarcoat it when he weighed in on Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.’s dismissal from Alabama.

Speaking on “4th & 1,” the Heisman Trophy winner said the situation struck a nerve because he knew Kirkpatrick’s father from playing against him. Newton then turned blunt as he addressed the younger Kirkpatrick directly, tying the episode to accountability and the standards that come with wearing a football scholarship.

“This particular situation kind of hits home because I had the opportunity to play against his dad,” Newton said. “Dre Kirkpatrick, he was one of many great Alabama players.

But I’m saying that because we have to put things into perspective on one side, but also hold people accountable on all sides. This particular individual is 20 years old.

Does he have life figured out already? Absolutely not.

To do one thing. All right.

To do two things stupid? You went from stupid to super stupid.

Already started off on super stupid, so now you know what that turned into? Super duper stupid.

It’s so much stupid going on… Dre Jr., to make a mistake, that’s cool. But to try to take it a step further as if you’re going to win that battle?

It’s more to it than just being a football player when you have a football scholarship. You have to align with certain standards and expectations that those specific brands are expecting you to do.

And that’s what all athletes need to understand. Nepotism or not, who your daddy is or not, whether you’re Chosen Newton or Camidus Newton, it don’t matter.

Don’t nobody care who your daddy is. What you’re doing is wrong, and we cannot bypass that type of behavior… If you no longer can play this game of football that you had dreams and aspirations to play as early as six and seven years old, don’t have it be at the hands of a reckless decision like this.”

Kirkpatrick was suspended and later kicked off the Alabama football team after his arrest on doxing and harassing communication charges. Those charges came from a November arrest, when police said the defensive back allegedly sent a profane message to an officer involved in his previous arrest.

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer announced earlier this week that Kirkpatrick had been dismissed from the Crimson Tide.

“After gathering more information on the situation, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. will no longer be a part of our program. He did not live up to the standards and expectations that I have set for this team and our players.”

Alabama Still Has One Noah Rogers Decision Hanging Over The Offense

Noah Rogers has been back in the mix since Week 4, but Alabama still has not fully unlocked what it wants from the NC State transfer. A knee injury in spring practice slowed his rollout, and while the staff has clearly been interested in finding more room for him on offense, the challenge has been fitting him into an already crowded rotation without pulling someone else off the field.

Kalen DeBoer has said the Tide would like to involve Rogers more, which leaves this as more than a simple health update. It is a usage question now, and one that will keep lingering as Alabama sorts out how to balance its personnel. Elsewhere around the program, sophomore guard Amari Allen is entering the year with some real buzz after being named preseason All-SEC first team by league coaches following a strong freshman season and a solid preseason showing. Alabama Heads To LSU With DeBoer Taking A Very Different Approach

The Alabama-LSU matchup on Nov. 7 already carried plenty of weight, but Lane Kiffin helped sharpen the edge by calling out the SECs decision to put the game in an afternoon window and suggesting the schedule favors LSU. His comments added another layer to a rivalry that rarely needs much help getting attention, especially with both programs entering a stretch where every move feels magnified.

Kalen DeBoer, meanwhile, has taken a noticeably different tack in the buildup, keeping the focus on Alabama rather than joining the public back-and-forth. With LSU dealing with injuries and the stakes obvious for the Crimson Tide, the game sets up as one of those November tests that can reshape the conversation around Alabama almost immediately, depending on how it plays out. Kalen DeBoer Just Landed In An Alabama Scenario Fans Will Hate

Kalen DeBoer is already getting pulled into the kind of rumor mill Alabama fans never want to see around a coach who is still settling in. After signing a long-term deal with the Crimson Tide, DeBoer has nevertheless surfaced as a name to watch if USC ever decides to make a change with Lincoln Riley, whose tenure in Los Angeles has yet to produce a national championship or a College Football Playoff berth.

For Alabama, the concern is obvious: whenever a coach starts showing up on another blue-bloods wish list, the speculation follows. DeBoers contract was built to give the Tide stability, but the USC angle keeps his name in circulation for a job that would be hard for any coach to ignore, and it leaves Alabama fans waiting to see whether the noise fades or grows louder.
