Alabama Star Amari Allen Cleared to Play in Crucial Florida Matchup

After days of uncertainty, Alabamas promising freshman is set to suit up in a pivotal SEC showdown against Florida.

Alabama is getting a key piece of its rotation back just in time for a pivotal SEC matchup.

Freshman forward Amari Allen is expected to return to action Sunday as No. 23 Alabama heads to Gainesville to take on No.

21 Florida. After being listed as a game-time decision by head coach Nate Oats earlier in the week, Allen’s name was removed from the SEC’s availability report on game day - a strong sign that he’s cleared and ready to suit up for the Crimson Tide.

Allen hasn’t played since suffering an undisclosed injury during Alabama’s road game at Oklahoma back on January 17. The team has been cautious with his return, and for good reason - Allen has been one of the most impactful freshmen in the SEC this season.

In 17 games this year, Allen is averaging 11.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per contest. That’s not just solid production for a freshman - that’s all-around versatility that’s tough to replace. His ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, whether it’s crashing the glass, facilitating from the forward spot, or knocking down timely buckets, has made him a valuable piece in Nate Oats’ up-tempo system.

With Alabama sitting at 14-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play, the timing of Allen’s return couldn’t be better. Florida presents a tough challenge on the road, and having a player like Allen back in the mix gives the Tide a boost in size, athleticism, and playmaking.

Tip-off is set for noon ET on Sunday, and the game will be nationally televised on ABC. Fans can also stream the action via Sling and Fubo.
