Alabama's New Rotation Already Has A Few Names Fans Need To Watch

As Alabama and Auburn gear up for the regular season, their exhibition game in Birmingham offered an exciting preview of the burgeoning basketball rivalry.

Alabama edged Auburn 44-41 in Thursday night’s exhibition in Birmingham, giving this rivalry an early basketball twist before SEC play even gets going.

The Crimson Tide built their small halftime cushion behind a balanced first-half effort, with several contributors making an impact. Qayden Samuels led Alabama with 14 points, hitting 4 of 11 shots and going 2 for 7 from beyond the arc while adding two assists.

Keitenn Bristow supplied 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks, and Tarris Bouie filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, two steals and a block. Brandon Garrison added six points and three rebounds, while Amari Allen contributed three points, three steals and an assist.

Alabama also got four points from Drew Fielder and three from Amari Allen, while Jamarion Davis-Fleming, London Jemison, TJ St. Louis and Jaxon Richardson were scoreless.

Auburn stayed close thanks to a steady scoring spread of its own. Kevin Overton finished with eight points and two assists, Caleb Williams scored seven, and Tahaad Pettiford added six points and two rebounds.

Narcisse Ngoy was efficient with eight points on 3-for-3 shooting, and Bukky Oboye posted six points and six rebounds. Thomas Dowd did the dirty work defensively, collecting five rebounds, two steals and two blocks despite not scoring.

The Tigers also got three points apiece from Blake Muschalek and Adam Olsen. George Kimble III and Dowd were among the Auburn players who helped keep the game tight, but Alabama’s early edge held through the first half.

Alabama May Need An Untested Freshman In Secondary Vs Texas A&M

Alabamas secondary could look a little different when it lines up against Texas A&M, with cornerback Zabien Brown listed as questionable after getting hurt last week. The Tide are already weighing adjustments on the back end as they try to steady a defense that could be tested again in a crucial SEC matchup.

If Brown cant go, the next man up may be one of the freshmen. Jorden Edmonds and Zyan Gibson, both highly recruited out of high school, are in the mix to see their first significant action, giving Alabama a young option at a spot where experience usually matters most. [Read more 🡒]

Alabama Gets A Telling SP+ Outlook With Pressure Rising Fast

With the Texas A&M game looming, Alabama is treating this stretch like the beginning of its College Football Playoff push. The Crimson Tide sit No. 13 in the major polls, which leaves little margin for error, and the visit from an Aggies team that has been uneven for much of the season still carries enough weight to shape how the rest of the year is judged.

ESPN analyst Bill Connellys SP+ model still likes Alabama to get the job done, giving the Tide a 76% chance to win. But Texas A&M has climbed a bit in the metric lately, which adds some intrigue to a matchup Alabama cant afford to treat lightly if it wants to stay in the playoff conversation. [Read more 🡒]

Alabama Faces A Texas A&M Threat That Could Change Everything

Texas A&M is headed back into SEC play with one of the leagues toughest road assignments waiting at Bryant-Denny Stadium, where No. 13 Alabama will try to steady itself after a loss to Tennessee. For the Crimson Tide, it is the kind of midseason test that can quickly reshape the mood around a team and remind everyone how little margin there is in conference play.

The Aggies bring a few players worth watching as they try to make this a real threat, including freshman running back KJ Edwards, edge rusher Keelon Russell and kicker David Olano. If Texas A&M can get meaningful production from that group, Alabama may have more on its hands than a routine home game, with kickoff set for Saturday at 2:30 on ABC. [Read more 🡒]
