ESPN’s “College GameDay” spent Saturday morning weighing one of Week 10’s biggest matchups, and the panel split on Alabama’s trip to LSU.
The Crimson Tide head into Tiger Stadium at 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the SEC, ranked No. 9 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25. LSU is 4-2 and 3-2, sitting at No. 15 in those polls, while Alabama checks in at No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings and the Tigers at No. 14.
The GameDay crew was on site in South Bend for the showdown between Mario Cristobal’s Miami Hurricanes and Marcus Freeman’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but the Alabama-LSU pick segment still drew plenty of attention. Kirk Herbstreit, who is on the call for the game in Baton Rouge, did not make a prediction.
Nick Saban leaned toward Alabama, though he made it clear the setting matters.
"This is one of the most unusual home deals you’ve ever seen. LSU beats Alabama more when Alabama’s at home.
Alabama beats LSU more when they’re playing at LSU, which is a tough place to play. But I think if Alabama gets it right, I’m all in for Alabama in this one."
Desmond Howard went the other way and backed LSU at home.
"This is a tough one to pick. I’m going to go with LSU simply because they’re at home.
Sam Leavitt is playing at a high level, not turning the ball over. They have Trey’Dez Green back, so I’m going to go with the Bayou Bengals."
Pat McAfee also took LSU, pointing to what he saw early in the season.
"Give me LSU. Just based on what we saw that first week against Clemson, and Sam Leavitt is playing better.
They still have a path to get in (the playoff). They know they have to win this at home.
That’s going to be a tough loss if it happens. I like LSU."
Celebrity guest picker Jason Sudeikis made it four straight LSU picks with a quick nod to a basketball legend.
"Pistol Pete Maravich is my all-time favorite basketball player, even though I never got to see him play. I’m going LSU."
Saban also filled out the rest of his top-25 board, taking No. 4 Notre Dame over No.
1 Miami, unranked Minnesota over No. 5 UCLA and No.
13 Tennessee over No. 6 Kentucky.
He also picked No. 12 Ohio State over No.
23 Oregon, No. 21 South Carolina over Texas A&M, No.
7 Texas over No. 18 Missouri and No.
2 Georgia over No. 10 Ole Miss.
Alabama and LSU are set for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff Saturday at Tiger Stadium.
ABC will carry the game, with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit on the broadcast. Holly Rowe and Laura Rutledge will report from the sidelines.
The Crimson Tide Sports Network feed, with Chris Stewart and Tyler Watts, will be available on SiriusXM Channel 81 and The Varsity App.
Alabama’s 2026 schedule has already included wins over East Carolina, Kentucky, Florida State, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Texas A&M, along with losses to Georgia and Tennessee. After LSU, the Crimson Tide still have Vanderbilt, Chattanooga and Auburn left on the slate.

Stephen A. Just Turned Up The Pressure On Kalen DeBoer
Alabamas season has reached the point where every stumble gets magnified, and Stephen A. Smith made sure the latest one landed with extra force. With the Crimson Tide sitting at 6-2, the spotlight has only intensified on Kalen DeBoer, whose first year in Tuscaloosa has already been measured against the programs usual standard of near-perfection and playoff contention.
The timing matters because LSU is next, and it is the kind of game that can either steady the season or deepen the questions around where Alabama is headed. Smiths criticism only adds to the pressure surrounding a team that is still ranked, still in the mix, and still expected to look more like Alabama, even as the margin for error keeps shrinking. Alabama Showed One New Strength Nate Oats Has Been Demanding
Nate Oats spent the offseason stressing a point Alabama could not ignore after its 2025-26 NCAA Tournament loss: the Crimson Tide had to get better on the glass. In the 2026-27 season opener against Arkansas State, that message showed up in a big way, as Alabama piled up 25 offensive rebounds, the most in the Oats era, and turned those extra possessions into a 101-86 win.
Even with the shot not falling the way Alabama would have liked, the rebounding edge gave the Tide a cushion and a clear early sign of progress in an area Oats has been pushing for months. It was also notable because Alabama did it without its best offensive rebounder, Jaxon Richardson, which only adds another layer to what the team may be capable of once that part of the rotation is fully in place. Keelon Russell Faces A Huge Alabama Weekend With More Than Heisman Stakes
A packed college football weekend is putting several of the sports biggest names under the microscope, and Alabama fans have a particular reason to keep one eye on the Heisman race and another on the schedule. Keelon Russell is among the quarterbacks whose performance could ripple beyond the standings, with his game carrying weight not just for Alabamas playoff hopes but also for the way the sports hottest players are being tracked in the card market.
The broader slate features other Heisman hopefuls such as Jeremiah Smith, Kenny Minchey, Sam Leavitt, Trinidad Chambliss, Gunner Stockton, Devon Dampier and Bear Bachmeier, turning the weekend into a referendum on momentum as much as talent. For collectors, the stakes are tied to more than wins and losses, since player performances can move card values quickly, and the mix of licensed and unlicensed cards adds another layer to how these names are being chased.
