Alabama Lands FCS Lineman Who Could Reshape DeBoers Offensive Line

Alabama continues its aggressive offensive line rebuild under Kalen DeBoer with the addition of a highly efficient FCS transfer who could emerge as a key piece in the trenches.

Alabama’s offensive line is getting a serious facelift this offseason - and the Crimson Tide just added another key piece to the puzzle. Cal Poly transfer center Racin Delgatty has officially committed to Alabama, becoming the third offensive lineman to join the program through the portal, alongside Michigan transfers Kaden Strayhorn and Ty Haywood.

Delgatty might not come from a Power Five powerhouse, but don’t let that fool you - this is a big-time addition. At 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, Delgatty brings size, mobility, and, most importantly, experience.

He’s logged over 1,300 career snaps and allowed just one sack in that time. That kind of production, even at the FCS level, is hard to ignore - especially for a program in the middle of rebuilding its offensive front.

The Crimson Tide were in need of reinforcements after a wave of departures hit the offensive line room. With starters like Kadyn Proctor and Parker Brailsford heading to the NFL and six more linemen exiting via the portal, Alabama was left with a depth chart that needed more than just patchwork - it needed a rebuild. And that’s exactly what head coach Kalen DeBoer and general manager Courtney Morgan have been working on.

Delgatty fits the mold of what this staff is looking for: tough, technically sound linemen who can anchor the middle of the line and provide stability for a new starting quarterback - whether that ends up being Keelon Russell or Austin Mack. Delgatty’s tape at Cal Poly shows a player who’s not just big, but nimble and disciplined. He was a second-team All-Big Sky selection at center last season, and his pass protection numbers over the last two years - just one sack, two QB hits, and 14 total pressures over 785 pass-blocking snaps - speak volumes.

It’s not just Alabama that saw his value. Delgatty drew interest from multiple Power Four programs and took visits to both Michigan and Colorado before choosing the Tide. That kind of demand tells you all you need to know about how he’s viewed in coaching circles.

In terms of fit, Delgatty is expected to compete for the starting center job, likely going head-to-head with Strayhorn. But there’s flexibility here.

Strayhorn could slide to right guard, with Michael Carroll holding down right tackle, William Sanders at left guard, and either Jackson Lloyd or Ty Haywood at left tackle. That group, on paper, gives Alabama a mix of experience, upside, and positional versatility - all things this staff is clearly prioritizing.

And the work might not be done yet. Alabama is reportedly still in the hunt for more offensive line help, looking to add a couple more bodies to round out the rotation and keep competition high heading into spring ball.

But make no mistake - the additions of Strayhorn, Haywood, and now Delgatty are a strong start. After some early uncertainty in the portal, DeBoer and Morgan have steadied the ship and are assembling a unit that looks ready to protect whoever steps under center in 2026. Delgatty’s arrival gives Alabama not just depth, but a legitimate contender to anchor the interior of the offensive line - and that’s exactly what the Tide needed.
