Alabama just added another piece to its already loaded 2026 recruiting class - and this one comes with some intriguing long-term upside.
On Tuesday, 3-star athlete Amari Sabb committed to the Crimson Tide, joining a class that currently sits at No. 2 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Sabb, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound playmaker out of Glassboro, New Jersey, chose Alabama over Notre Dame and Oregon State. He’s the younger brother of current Alabama starting safety Keon Sabb, and now the second member of the family to call Tuscaloosa home.
While Amari Sabb might not jump off the page in terms of national ranking - he sits at No. 1180 in the composite - this is one of those commitments that could carry more weight than the stars suggest. For one, Sabb brings versatility.
He was a do-it-all weapon in high school, contributing in multiple phases of the game. At Alabama, he projects as a wide receiver, though his quickest path to the field could come as a return specialist.
His size may be a hurdle in the SEC, but with time in the Tide’s strength and conditioning program, there’s real potential for him to grow into a useful offensive weapon.
More importantly, though, this commitment may have ripple effects beyond the 2026 class. With Amari now joining Keon in Tuscaloosa, Alabama has positioned itself well in the race for the youngest Sabb brother - Xavier Sabb, a 5-star wide receiver in the 2027 cycle and one of the most coveted recruits in the country.
It’s shaping up to be a four-team race for Xavier, with Alabama battling Oregon, Notre Dame, and Nebraska. But with two brothers already in crimson and white, the family atmosphere in Tuscaloosa could be a meaningful factor. Head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff are clearly playing the long game here - and they just gave themselves a significant boost.
And with the NCAA’s expanded scholarship limit - now up to 105 - there’s more flexibility to take calculated bets on high-upside athletes like Amari Sabb. Even if his impact on the field takes time to develop, his presence could help swing the recruitment of a potential game-changer in Xavier.
So while Tuesday’s commitment might not have made national headlines, it’s the kind of move that shows Alabama is thinking big-picture. In a recruiting landscape that’s more competitive than ever, stacking talent - and building family ties - is how you stay ahead.
