Alabama Just Scored A Rivalry Recruiting Win Fans Will Love

In a surprising turn of events, Alabama secures top wide receiver Cedrick Simmons from rival Auburn, showcasing head coach Kalen DeBoer's strategic prowess in recruitment.

Kalen DeBoer and Alabama have landed a major in-state flip, pulling Cedrick Simmons away from Auburn and giving the Crimson Tide another key piece in the 2027 class.

The news was first reported by Hayes Fawcett on Twitter, who wrote:

“BREAKING: Class of 2027 WR Cedrick Simmons has Flipped his Commitment from Auburn to Alabama, a source tells @Rivals

The 5’10 195 WR had been Committed to the Tigers since June 23rd https://t.co/oguNaknYws pic.twitter.com/x5qFPNXjsk”

Simmons had only been pledged to Auburn for three weeks after committing on June 23, following his visit to the Plains on June 19. Alabama had already made a strong impression during his visit to Tuscaloosa the week before, and the Tide never really went away in his recruitment.

In the end, DeBoer and Alabama got the player they had been pushing for all along, and Auburn’s early win in the battle didn’t hold up.

Simmons is listed as a 3-star receiver, but his production suggests a much bigger impact player than that label might indicate. His junior season at Southside High School in Selma was the kind that grabs attention fast. In 2025, he led all receivers in Alabama with 2,192 receiving yards on 106 catches and 20 touchdowns.

That kind of output made him a priority for both in-state programs once they got serious this summer. Auburn offered in late May, Alabama followed on June 1, and both schools quickly lined up official visits. West Virginia and Purdue also tried to get involved, but the race narrowed to Alabama and Auburn before Simmons ultimately chose the Tigers - and then changed course.

The flip is a tough one for Auburn, especially after its fans celebrated the original commitment. Simmons grew up a Tide fan, and now he’s headed to the school he wanted to attend in the first place.

For Alabama, Simmons becomes the 14th commitment in the 2027 class and the second receiver in the group. The Tide also picked up a pledge from 4-star Osani Gayles at the end of last month.

That gives Alabama a strong receiver start in this class, even if the biggest target is still out there. Five-star Monshun Sales is set to announce his commitment on Friday, and the current industry feeling is that the decision will come down to Indiana or Texas, with Alabama on the outside looking in.

Still, Simmons is a meaningful addition for DeBoer, and he gives Alabama another explosive weapon for the future alongside OC Ryan Grubb.

Auburn Just Crossed Into A New SEC Pay For Play Fight

Auburns latest postseason setup has pushed the SECs name, image and likeness debate into a new corner, with Peach Bowl Inc. creating a deal tied to the Atlanta game that blends player compensation with ticket revenue. The arrangement reaches 24 Tigers and comes with a ticket allotment that heavily favors Auburn, setting up another example of how major bowl events are becoming as much about business structure as football.

The compensation is coming from both NIL deals and a share of ticket sales, a combination that would have sounded far-fetched not long ago but is now part of the sports shifting landscape. Auburn athletic director John Cohen has shown no concern about the nature of the setup, even as the details underscore how quickly the line between traditional bowl payouts and direct player benefits keeps moving. Alabama QB Battle Just Took An Intriguing Turn Before Camp

With fall camp drawing closer, Alabamas quarterback picture remains one of the most watched storylines around Tuscaloosa, and the conversation has only sharpened as the competition heads into its next phase. The staff still has not named a starter, but the buzz around the room has leaned toward Keelon Russell, the highly rated sophomore whose profile has made him a popular pick among fans tracking the battle.

Mark Ingram added another layer to that debate by saying Russell currently has the upper hand, a notable endorsement from someone who knows what it takes to thrive in Alabamas pressure cooker. Even so, Austin Mack is expected to be first up in early camp work because of his seniority, which keeps the pecking order from feeling settled just yet and leaves the race with plenty of room to change once the pads come on. Alabamas Quarterback Battle Is Starting To Feel Like A Bigger Problem

Kalen DeBoers quarterback decision has lingered long enough to become one of the quiet pressure points around Alabama as the program moves deeper into the offseason. The battle between Keelon Russell and Austin Mack has drawn the most attention, and DeBoer has already said publicly that he does not have a timetable for naming a starter, which only keeps the conversation alive as the Crimson Tide sort through the position.

The longer that call stretches on, the more it starts to feel like more than a routine camp competition. Alabama has other quarterbacks in the program and more coming in, including Elijah Haven and Trent Seaborn, so the depth chart will keep evolving either way, but the immediate question remains whether DeBoer can settle the spot soon enough to give the offense a clear direction before the season starts to take shape.
