Alabama’s weekend run on the recruiting trail kept rolling Sunday night, and Joshua Lane became the latest defensive lineman to make a move.
Lane, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound 2027 prospect from Memphis Central High School, backed off his commitment to Memphis after visiting Tuscaloosa for the Florida State game. He had been pledged to the hometown Tigers since June, but the momentum around his recruitment has picked up fast in recent weeks.
That surge started to show up in the offer sheet. Lane has since picked up Power Four offers from Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi State, Iowa State and Alabama.
And the Crimson Tide appear to be in a strong spot after hosting him on an unofficial visit over the weekend. He is reportedly expected back in Tuscaloosa in the coming weeks for an official visit.
Lane’s senior tape has only added to the buzz. Through four games, he has already matched his career sack total and equaled the tackles-for-loss mark he posted as a junior.
His decommitment also comes with a timing wrinkle for Alabama. The Tide landed another 2027 defensive lineman, 3-star Tulane commitment Kavarris "Duke" Duncan, on Sunday, just one day after offering him. With Duncan now in the class and Alabama native AJ Pauley already on board as one of the early pledges in the cycle, adding Lane would go a long way toward finishing out the group.

Lane’s recruitment has gone from quiet to crowded in a hurry, and Alabama is right in the middle of it. That kind of late-blooming attention can lead to a few more visits before a final call is made.
The Tide’s 2027 defensive line class isn’t on the same level as the one they signed a year ago, but there is still upside in this group. The source of that optimism is the kind of development story Alabama has seen before, including London Simmons, a 3-star who earned a major role as a freshman and remains a key part of the rotation up front as a sophomore.

Alabamas ground game drew plenty of attention in the season-opening win over Florida State, and freshman running back EJ Crowell was a big reason why.
