Alabama has added another major piece to its future backcourt, landing a commitment from four-star guard Chase Lumpkin, according to multiple reports.
Lumpkin, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound prospect from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia, sits firmly among the best players in the 2027 class. He is rated No. 26 overall, the No. 6 combo guard and the No. 3 recruit in Georgia.
The Crimson Tide beat out a long list of suitors for Lumpkin’s pledge. Per 247 Sports, his finalists included Michigan, USC, Louisville, UConn, Villanova, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, California, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon, Rutgers, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt, SMU, East Carolina, Georgia State, Providence and San Diego.
With Lumpkin on board, Alabama now has its first member of the 2027 class. Anderson Diaz had previously filled that role, but he reclassified and is now part of the upcoming season’s roster.
Lumpkin’s weekend visit to Tuscaloosa appears to have done the trick. Head coach Nate Oats and assistant Preston Murphy made a strong impression, and the pairing has leaned heavily into recruiting guard-wing types over the last two years. That approach shows up elsewhere on Alabama’s future roster, too, with Diaz and three 6-foot-6 freshmen - Jaxon Richardson, Qayden Samuels and Tarris Bouie - already in the mix for the 2026-27 team.
Yea Alabama, the university’s NIL collective, shared the message Lumpkin sent after his commitment.
"After a lot of prayer, conversations with my family, and thinking about what I want for my future, I'm blessed to announce that I'm committing to the University of Alabama," Lumpkin wrote.
"I believe in Coach Oats, Coach Murphy, the coaching staff, the players, and what they're building. I'm excited about the culture, the development, the way they play, and the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
"I'm not going to Alabama just to be there. I'm going there to work, compete, and win.
"I'm ready to learn, get better, and give everything I have to the program. I'll represent Alabama the right way, both on and off the court.
"To the Alabama fans, I can't wait to meet you, play in front of you, and make some great memories.
"The goal hasn't changed. I didn't come this far to stop now.
