ESPN College GameDay will have a familiar face on hand for Week 6’s spotlight matchup between Georgia and Alabama.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young said on the Pat McAfee Show that he will serve as the celebrity picker this Saturday when College GameDay is in Alabama for the No. 6 vs. No. 2 showdown.
Young knows the stage well. He won the Heisman Trophy at Alabama in 2021 as a sophomore, his first full season as the starter, and put together a huge year with 4,872 passing yards, 47 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He’s now carrying that profile into the NFL, where he leads the league in passing through four weeks with 1,268 yards and has established himself as the Panthers’ franchise quarterback.
The game itself has plenty of uncertainty around it because Hurricane Isaias is threatening Saturday’s matchup. For now, Georgia is still set to face Alabama in Alabama, though there has been discussion about the game being postponed or moved.
If the teams do play, weather could shape the whole afternoon. Wind and rain are expected to be factors, setting up a throwback kind of game. Both defenses have the look of units that can make life difficult, but Georgia appears to have the edge when it comes to running the ball.
That ground game will center on Nate Frazier for the Bulldogs, and Alabama will need to keep him in check. Georgia also received some bad news Wednesday night, when Chauncy Bowen was ruled out. Bowen has 124 yards and six touchdowns on the season.
Alabama’s leading rusher is Daniel Hill, who has 247 yards and four touchdowns.

Alabama-Georgia Could Swing On One Quarterback Clash
Georgia arrives with the edge of experience at quarterback, and that alone gives Saturdays matchup a familiar feel for a game that tends to turn on poise as much as playmaking. Gunner Stockton has already been through the pressure of the SEC Championship stage and came away with the MVP hardware, giving the Bulldogs a steady hand in big moments and a baseline of confidence Alabama will have to account for.
On the other sideline, Keelon Russell brings a different kind of threat, the sort of flashy talent that can change the scoring rhythm of a game in a hurry. For Alabama, the question is not simply whether Russell can make plays, but whether his style can tilt the matchup enough to offset Stocktons experience and help decide which team controls the evening. Herbstreit Sees A Different Alabama Team Ahead Of Georgia Showdown
Kalen DeBoers first Alabama team has already given observers enough reason to believe the program is starting to look different from the one Nick Saban left behind. Kirk Herbstreit recently pointed to a group that appears healthier, more balanced and more comfortable in its own skin, noting how the Tide have opened the 2026 season 5-0 while building toward a marquee matchup with Georgia.
Herbstreit also framed the early progress as more than just a hot start, crediting DeBoer for sticking with his own coaching identity even with the pressure that comes with the job. The bigger question now is whether Alabamas improved health and steadier play in the trenches can hold up when the competition level jumps again, because Georgia will offer a far stiffer test than anything the Tide have faced so far. Alabama-Georgia Weekend Just Got A Weather Twist Fans Didn't Expect
The buildup to Alabama-Georgia picked up an unexpected wrinkle with Isaias approaching, forcing ESPNs College GameDay to change plans for Saturday morning. Instead of setting up outdoors for its usual pregame scene, the show will shift inside Coleman Coliseum, a rare move that changes the feel of one of the sports biggest weekly stages.
Even with the weather complication, officials still expect the game itself to go on as scheduled at Bryant-Denny Stadium with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The matchup already carried plenty of weight with both teams undefeated after strong recent performances, and now the only real uncertainty is how much the storm will alter the day around it.
