Alabama-Georgia Now Has A Storm Threat Fans Can't Ignore

With severe weather threatening to disrupt Alabama's showdown against Georgia, the university remains vigilant in safeguarding all involved while ensuring the game proceeds as scheduled.

Alabama says it is still preparing for a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff against Georgia on Saturday, even as the forecast for Tropical Storm Isaias continues to sharpen and the weather picture grows more complicated.

In a statement released Wednesday night, Alabama athletics said it is watching the storm closely and staying in contact with the National Weather Service, the Southeastern Conference and Georgia.

“Alabama athletics continues to closely monitor the weather forecast ahead of Saturday’s football game, with the safety and well-being of the student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans as our highest priority,” the statement from Alabama reads. “We remain in close communication with the National Weather Service, the Southeastern Conference Office and the University of Georgia as we observe conditions.

“At this time, kickoff remains scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday. We continue to encourage fans to rely on official Alabama athletics and SEC channels for the latest information regarding Saturday’s game.”

The National Weather Service in Birmingham said Wednesday afternoon that Isaias was sitting in the Southwestern Gulf around 4 p.m. CT and was expected to move toward the northern Gulf Coast this week. By late Wednesday, the forecast called for the storm to “intensify into a hurricane over the next 24 hours," per the NWS.

There are still some unknowns in the forecast, including the storm’s timing, strength and exact track. The Birmingham office said those details will keep getting refined as more information comes in.

“Some model uncertainties still exist regarding timing, intensity, and exact track, so refinements to the forecast will continue to be applied,” the NWS in Birmingham wrote. “Central Alabama effects will include heavy rainfall and gusty winds from Friday into Saturday.”

The NWS also urged people to keep checking official forecasts and to “start considering preparations for power outages and flooding.”

According to the Wednesday afternoon storm diagram from the National Weather Service, the system is projected to reach the Alabama coast by 1 a.m. Saturday and move into north Alabama by 1 p.m. Saturday.

No. 6 Alabama, 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the SEC, is scheduled to meet No. 2 Georgia, also 5-0 and 3-0, at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Nick Saban's Music Taste Has Alabama Fans Doing Double Takes

Nick Sabans public image has always leaned more toward discipline than downtime, so Kristen Sabans latest reveal gave Alabama fans a different kind of glimpse into the longtime coach. She shared a Spotify playlist called Nick on the AUX, built from songs she says were selected by her father, and the mix is broad enough to make even a few Crimson Tide loyalists do a double take.

The playlist reaches across generations and genres, with names like The Rolling Stones, Eagles, The Who, Johnny Cash and Elton John all in the mix. The timing is notable, too, arriving as ESPNs original documentary Saban is set to debut, adding another layer to a figure Alabama fans have spent years trying to read beyond the sideline persona. Alabama Faces Key Availability Calls Ahead Of Georgia Showdown

With the Southeastern Conference now requiring injury reports for conference games across football, basketball and baseball, Alabamas weekly lead-up to Georgia carries a little more public intrigue than usual. Coach Kalen DeBoer offered a snapshot of where several players stand as the Crimson Tide prepare for one of the biggest games on the schedule, with tight end Josh Ford still working back from arm surgery and right tackle Jayvin James trending toward a return.

The rest of the report leaves Alabama with some decisions to monitor as the week goes on, since a handful of players are still listed as questionable or out for the season. The SEC-mandated availability update is set to keep changing as kickoff gets closer, so the Tides final status report could shape how they line up against Georgia and how much flexibility DeBoer has on both sides of the ball. Jalen Hurts Faces Mounting Pressure After Eagles Offensive Line Shakeup

The Eagles offensive line has entered a period of transition, and Jalen Hurts is now being asked to steady everything around it. Lane Johnsons retirement came shortly after he was scratched from a game against the Los Angeles Rams, and the front five took another hit when Philadelphia dealt center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens for draft picks. For a quarterback who has long been tied to protecting the structure of the offense, the changes carry obvious weight.

Hurts addressed the reshaped line publicly and said he believes the group can still get better under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. For Alabama fans who followed Hurts from his college days, it is another reminder of how often his value is measured not just by production, but by how well he can navigate uncertainty around him. The Eagles are trying to rebuild some stability in a suddenly different environment, and Hurts will be central to whether that happens quickly enough. [Read more 🡒]
