Alabama Faces A Tough Dijon Lee Decision With Tennessee Next

Alabama's Dijon Lee faces consequences after a costly penalty that contributed to the team's defeat against Georgia, highlighting ongoing concerns over discipline and performance.

Alabama’s late-game loss to Georgia turned on one costly mistake, and Kane Wommack made it clear Monday that Dijon Lee’s role going forward is now tied to how he responds.

With the Crimson Tide one stop away from getting the ball back and a shot to win, Lee committed the kind of error that can’t happen in that spot. He struck a Georgia player after the whistle, drawing a 15-yard penalty that helped the Bulldogs run out the clock in their 20-17 win.

Kalen DeBoer reacted immediately on the sideline, and Wommack said he shared that frustration.

“Obviously, Dijon at the end of the game, and that is not the standard of how we operate,” Wommack said. “You know, I listen to coach DeBoer all year talk about the discipline that we play with in those moments, and showing guys clips of guys playing outside of themselves and playing emotional, and so very disappointing in all the time and effort that we put into that, that showed up in that moment. But he will be held accountable for it, and we will continue to move forward as a football team.”

Lee has started at corner all season for Alabama, but he has had his share of problems with penalties and giving up explosive plays. Still, the flag against Georgia stood out as his toughest moment yet because of when it happened and what it cost.

Wommack was asked what accountability might look like, and he pointed directly to playing time.

“My job is to get the most out of every single player in our defense, right?” Wommack said.

“And so, the things that I need to do to get him to execute at a higher level than what he’s doing from an execution standpoint, that’s one facet, and then the other facet is being held accountable for the penalty there at the end of the game. “

And so you know there’ll be some things that we will do this week, and some things, obviously, moving forward. My job as a coordinator is based upon the production that you put on the field, the role that you have moving forward, and so from a rep-based standpoint, you know that that will be reflective in what guys have done to this point."

Alabama now turns to Tennessee on Saturday in Knoxville. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC.

Kirby Smarts Leaked Message Adds Sting To Alabama Loss

A locker room speech from Kirby Smart has added a fresh layer to Alabamas latest painful loss, after the Georgia coach confirmed a leaked message that surfaced from inside the Bulldogs postgame celebration. The speech, delivered with plenty of fire and strong language, was aimed squarely at the Crimson Tide before Georgias 20-17 win, and it quickly became another talking point around a game that already carried plenty of weight.

For Alabama, the sting is less about the words themselves than what they represented in the moment. Smarts comments underscored how personal and intense the matchup felt on Georgias side, and the fact that they were later confirmed only made the episode harder to ignore for a team already dealing with the disappointment of coming up just short. Alabamas Playoff Push Runs Through A Tennessee Problem It Must Exploit

Tennessees quarterback situation has become one of the central storylines heading into its meeting with Alabama, and it is hard to ignore how much that matters for a Crimson Tide team still trying to strengthen its playoff case. With Faizon Brandon dealing with injuries and George MacIntyre having to shoulder the offense, the Volunteers enter the matchup with questions at the most important spot on the field, while Alabama can focus on what it needs to do to keep the pressure on in the race for the postseason.

For Alabama, the task is not just about getting after the quarterback. The Tide also have to be sharp against Tennessees rushing game, because that is the area where the Volunteers can still create problems even when the passing game is uneven. Alabama has already spent time adjusting defensively with that in mind, and the outcome could shape both the game and where the Crimson Tide stand when the playoff picture gets clearer. Alabama Fans Put Unwanted Spotlight On Program After Georgia Incident

The postgame scene after Georgias win over Alabama turned ugly when Bulldogs linebacker Raylen Wilson was seen on video being physically confronted by a fan who smacked and pushed his helmet while yelling. It was the kind of moment that can overshadow everything else from a high-profile matchup, and it quickly pushed the focus away from the field and onto behavior in the stands.

Kirby Smart called the fans conduct disappointing and said it was not condoned by either program, while Alabama athletics moved to distance itself from the incident with a statement condemning the unacceptable behavior. The school also said it is gathering information, leaving the broader question of what happened next still hanging over a situation both teams would have preferred to leave in the past. [Read more 🡒]
