The Oklahoma football program has moved on from one of its most promising young receivers before he ever got a real chance to settle in.
Freshman wideout Jahsiear Rogers has been dismissed from the Sooners, multiple outlets confirmed Thursday through an OU spokesperson. No reason was provided, and Rogers has already been taken off Oklahoma’s online roster.
The timing lands just two days before Oklahoma faces No. 1 Texas in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday, but Rogers was not in line to factor into that matchup anyway. His absence matters more for what might have come later, because the Sooners once viewed him as a player with real upside.
Oklahoma flipped Rogers from Penn State just two months before last year’s early signing period. He had been committed to the Nittany Lions since July 2024, then started exploring other options after Penn State fired head coach James Franklin.
Once he reopened things, Rogers added offers from Oklahoma, Alabama, Nebraska and Wake Forest. Norman was his first visit, and he committed after that trip.
He remained locked in even after visiting Alabama and Nebraska.
Rogers arrived with a strong resume. The 247Sports Composite ranked him as the No. 50 wide receiver in the 2026 class and a four-star recruit. He was also the top player from Delaware.
At 5-foot-11, he was a little undersized, but the speed and versatility were there. That showed up in spring and fall camp, where there was plenty of buzz that Oklahoma planned to use him in a variety of ways. Reporters at practice came away impressed, and there were also signs he could be used in the backfield and as a kick returner.
The excitement really spiked after Oklahoma’s spring game, when Rogers caught five passes for 70 yards, both team highs. One post from that day summed up the buzz around him: "Noted it on in the instant reaction yesterday, but how about true freshman WR Jahsiear Rogers on Saturday?

But that promise never translated into meaningful game action. Rogers had not appeared on the field since Oklahoma’s season opener against UTEP, and in that game he played just six snaps.
Before the dismissal, he had looked like one of the freshmen most likely to help the Sooners in 2026. Instead, his time in Norman ends without the kind of contribution many expected, and with another talented receiver leaving Oklahoma before ever becoming part of the offense.

Alabama-Georgia GameDay Plans Just Changed Because Of The Weather
With Hurricane Isaias approaching, Alabamas biggest pregame stage is getting a change of scenery. ESPNs College GameDay will still roll into Tuscaloosa for the matchup with Georgia, but the shows set is being moved inside Coleman Coliseum instead of its usual outdoor spot, turning a familiar Saturday tradition into something a little less predictable.
James Spann, the longtime Alabama weatherman, is scheduled to join the broadcast early with an update on the conditions that forced the move. The show begins at 8 a.m. CT on ESPN, and former Alabama player Bryce Young will handle guest picker duties, giving the Tide crowd plenty to watch before kickoff even arrives. [Read more 🡒]
Herbstreit Sees A Different Alabama Team Ahead Of Georgia Showdown
Kirk Herbstreit sees a version of Alabama that looks different from the one fans got used to during the Nick Saban era, and the changes he pointed to are the kinds that matter most in October. Under Kalen DeBoer, the Crimson Tide have opened the 2026 season 5-0, and Herbstreit said the team has looked healthier, more balanced in the running game and sturdier on both lines of scrimmage while the defense has also taken a step forward.
With Georgia next, the conversation around Alabama is shifting from adjustment to proof point, and Herbstreit praised DeBoer for sticking with his own coaching style even with the pressure that comes with the job. The bigger question now is whether this altered version of the Tide can carry those improvements into a game that will say a lot about just how real the early surge has been. [Read more 🡒]
Alabama Backcourt Depth Already Facing An Early Concern
Alabamas backcourt depth took an early hit this week when Nate Oats said guard Anderson Diaz will be sidelined for about a month after suffering an elbow injury. The good news for the Crimson Tide is that surgery wont be needed, and the plan now shifts to rehab as the staff works to get him back by early November.
Diaz is a recent addition to Alabamas 2026-27 roster after reclassifying, so the setback comes before he has even had a chance to settle into the programs future plans. It is not a long-term issue, but it is still an unwelcome one for a team that values guard depth and wants to keep building continuity in the backcourt. [Read more 🡒]
