Kalen DeBoer’s name has surfaced in connection with the Michigan head coaching job, and over the last few days, that buzz has only gotten louder. DeBoer, a South Dakota native with deep Midwestern roots, has been floated as a potential fit in Ann Arbor-especially with the Wolverines reportedly exploring options for their next head coach.
But on Sunday, DeBoer made it clear: he’s not going anywhere.
After reports emerged that Michigan’s search firm had contacted his representatives, the Alabama head coach addressed the speculation directly. In a statement, DeBoer reaffirmed his commitment to the Crimson Tide, saying he and his family are “very happy in Tuscaloosa” and that he has “no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job.”
That’s about as definitive as it gets in the coaching carousel world.
“We have an incredible opportunity in front of us,” DeBoer said, “so my sole focus is on Alabama football and our preparations to play Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff.”
And that opportunity is a big one. After a 9-4 campaign in 2024 that saw Alabama miss the Playoff, DeBoer has the Tide back in the mix this season.
Alabama finished 10-3 and earned a spot in the SEC Championship Game, which was enough to punch their ticket to the Playoff. Now, they’re gearing up for a first-round showdown against Oklahoma in Norman.
It’s a critical moment for the program-and for DeBoer’s tenure. After taking over one of the most high-profile jobs in college football, he's had to navigate the pressure of following a legendary predecessor and reestablishing Alabama as a Playoff mainstay. Getting back to the postseason in Year 2 is a strong step in that direction.
DeBoer closed his statement with a clear message: “I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”
Alabama faces Oklahoma this Friday, with the winner advancing to face top-seeded Indiana. For now, DeBoer’s focus is exactly where he says it is-on the field, not the rumor mill.
