Aden Holloway Status Takes Late Turn Before Michigan

Despite travel approval, Aden Holloway remains sidelined as Alabama prepares to face Michigan in the Sweet 16.

Aden Holloway's journey to Chicago is officially on.

In a significant development early Friday, a judge gave Holloway the green light to travel out of Alabama. This decision followed a request from Holloway's attorney, filed just the night before, allowing him to leave the state from March 27th to March 31st.

So, does this mean Holloway will suit up for Alabama in their Sweet 16 clash against top-seeded Michigan tonight? Not quite.

Alabama has already declared Holloway out for the Sweet 16 in their official availability report released Thursday night. According to NCAA rules, fielding a player listed as out could result in a hefty fine of up to $10,000 for the Crimson Tide.

Holloway's situation with Alabama basketball remains murky despite the travel approval. As of the latest update, Holloway is still suspended from both the team and the school due to his March 16th arrest on felony marijuana charges. His suspension awaits a review by the student conduct board, but any decisions from that front are still pending.

Even with the travel permission, Holloway's status for tonight's game is unlikely to change. He hasn't been part of team practices since his suspension, and Alabama has been thriving in his absence.

The Crimson Tide has been on a roll, delivering standout performances in the NCAA Tournament with victories over Hofstra and Texas Tech to reach the Sweet 16. The revamped lineup featuring Latrell Wrightsell at shooting guard and Amari Allen at small forward has been a defensive powerhouse. Alabama also showcased their shooting prowess, sinking 19 three-pointers in their second-round victory over Texas Tech, all without Holloway.

Bringing Holloway back into the fold at this juncture seems unnecessary, yet his presence in Chicago could still be a morale booster as he supports his teammates from the sidelines.
