Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy is already under a bright spotlight in August 2026, and a rough training camp showing only turned up the heat.
A viral clip from camp captured McCarthy going through routine passing drills and spraying several throws off target. The misses drew visible groans from fans in the stands, and critical comments about whether he’s ready for pro game action could be heard in the short recording.
It’s the latest twist in a career that has been anything but smooth. McCarthy, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, lost his entire rookie season to a torn meniscus.

He later led them to a Super Bowl LX victory in February 2026, after previously losing money playing in San Francisco.
