The Seahawks won’t get Zach Charbonnet back in time for Sunday night’s showdown with the Chiefs.
Seattle ruled out the running back for Week 7, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, after there had been some optimism earlier in the week that he might be ready. That puts his return on hold for at least another game, even after the Seahawks activated him from the PUP list to the 53-man roster just days ago.
The timing stings a little more because Kansas City is bringing former Seahawks back to Seattle in Kenneth Walker III, and the game was shaping up to be even more intriguing if Charbonnet had been available. Rookie first-round pick Jadarian Price is also still on injured reserve with a chest issue, leaving Seattle thin in the backfield.
Macdonald said during the week that there was a "possibility" Charbonnet could suit up against the Chiefs. The coach made it clear the Seahawks were trying to get him ready, but the ramp-up simply wasn’t enough for Sunday night.
"It's remarkable," Macdonald said, via the Seahawks website. "I know he's had a certain date in mind, which is a really ambitious date.
Those who have tried to come back from a significant knee surgery understand the undertaking that it takes. Zach's a beast.
He looks great.
"It's not easy to say, 'All right, let's go.' So for him to have that courage to say that and work through the things he's worked through, you can't do anything but tip your cap to him."
Charbonnet still appears to be in line for a return soon, with Week 8 against the Bears on "Monday Night Football" at home listed as a possible landing spot.
For now, Seattle keeps grinding through the early part of the season without its top two backs. Through six games, the Seahawks are averaging 3.9 yards per rush, and Emanuel Wilson leads the team on the ground with 303 yards and two touchdowns on 87 carries.

Ex-Chiefs LB Leo Chenal Just Turned A Scary Injury Into Hope
Washington linebacker Leo Chenals latest update came nearly four weeks after a frightening scene in the Seahawks-Commanders game, when a neck injury forced him off the field on a cart. For Chiefs fans who watched Chenal develop into a dependable defender before his move to Washington, the injury immediately carried an extra level of concern, especially given how severe it looked in real time.
Chenal posted on Instagram this week to let people know he is moving forward in his recovery, and the message centered on gratitude for the help he has received from his family and medical team. The comeback remains an open-ended story for now, but after something this serious, simply getting to this point is the encouraging part. [Read more 🡒]
Taylor Swift Had Enough During A Viral Chiefs Game Moment
Taylor Swifts presence at Kansas City Chiefs games has brought a different kind of spotlight to Arrowhead, and it comes with plenty of close-up attention from fans who are just as interested in her as they are in the action on the field. During one viral moment that made the rounds on social media, Swift was reportedly caught in an exchange with a fan who appeared to be filming her rather than following the game.
An eyewitness said a bodyguard had already asked the fan to leave the area before Swifts reaction, which only added to the sense that the moment had reached a tipping point. The scene is a reminder of how quickly a normal game-day setting can turn into a public flashpoint when Swift is involved, and it leaves open the larger question of how much attention she can reasonably be expected to tolerate while trying to enjoy the game. Chiefs Rookie Suddenly Has A Real Shot In Shorthanded Offense
The Chiefs are headed into their matchup with the Seahawks short-handed on offense, with Rashee Rice, Jaylon Moore and Brashard Smith all out because of injuries. That creates an opportunity for depth players to step forward, and it has pushed rookie running back Jaydn Ott onto the active roster in time for a potentially meaningful first look at the NFL level.
Ott arrived in Kansas City as an undrafted free agent, but the team has seen enough to keep him in the mix, and his college track record gives him a real case to be more than a temporary fill-in. He led the Pac-12 with 1,315 rushing yards in 2023 and brought the kind of explosive athletic traits that made him an intriguing preseason addition, so a shorthanded offense may be giving him a chance sooner than expected.
