The Texans have already done business at wide receiver this season, and that may be exactly why another move at the deadline should be on the table.
With the NFL trade deadline coming up on November 10th at 3 p.m. CT, Houston has time to decide whether it wants to stay quiet or keep working the market. The front office has already been active, adding Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots after Jayden Higgins suffered a season-ending ACL injury, and later bringing in Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals.
That kind of activity leaves open two very different paths for the Texans. One is easy to see: sit tight, keep the roster intact, and ride the momentum of the last two wins. The other is more aggressive, and it may actually make more sense if Houston wants to help itself both now and later.
If the Texans do make a deadline move, the smartest play might not be adding another piece. It might be moving one out.
The receiver room is crowded enough that Houston could look to cash in on some of that depth, with Xavier Hutchinson and Kayshon Boutte standing out as the clearest names to monitor. Tank Dell is set to return off injured reserve after his severe knee injury, and that only adds to an already packed group.
Nico Collins, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Jaylin Noel all need snaps. So do Tank Dell, Boutte, and Hutchinson.
That’s six receivers who could reasonably see the field on a weekly basis, and three of them are on expiring contracts heading into the offseason. Jayden Higgins, who is due back in 2027, only makes the room look even deeper.
That’s where the logic shifts for Houston. Instead of letting that depth sit there and risk losing players for nothing later, the Texans could turn one of those expiring deals into something usable down the road. Hutchinson and Boutte are the obvious trade candidates, and even a modest return like a day three pick would give Houston something to show for the roster logjam.
Tank Dell is also on an expiring contract, but there’s a 0% chance he’s on the move any time this season.
The Texans have more than enough time to weigh it all before the deadline passes. But if they do make one selling move, moving a receiver feels like the cleanest answer.

Texans Defense Could Get A Huge Week 7 Boost
Azeez Al-Shaairs return to practice is a welcome sign for a Texans defense that has needed every bit of stability it can get through a 2-4 start. After dealing with a minor knee injury, the linebacker has moved into limited work, which at least puts him in position to be available when Houston hosts the Giants on Oct. 25.
For a defense that has leaned on him heavily, his presence would matter right away. Al-Shaair has been one of Houstons most active players through the first five games, piling up 49 tackles and two pass deflections, and the Texans would love to have that kind of production and leadership back in the middle of the unit for a game they badly need to control. Texans Suddenly Have One Big Concern Despite Tank Dells Return
Tank Dell is back to full participation in practice, giving Houston at least one encouraging sign as it turns toward its matchup with the Giants. His return should help stabilize an offense that has been waiting for more juice from its receiving group, but the bigger picture around the Texans still looks unsettled as the week unfolds.
Seven Texans did not practice because of injuries, and the most troubling absences came in the secondary with Azeez Al-Shaair, Reed Blankenship and Jalen Pitre among those sidelined. Houston is also dealing with issues up front, with Trent Brown and Blake Fisher missing practice, so even with New York confirming J.J. McCarthy as its starter, the Texans are suddenly managing far more than one comeback story. [Read more 🡒]
Marvin Harrison Jr. Could Be Headed For A Bigger Texans Role
Marvin Harrison Jr. has already started to settle into the Texans offense, giving C.J. Stroud another reliable presence as Houston looks to keep its momentum rolling. The early returns have been encouraging, with Stroud and coach DeMeco Ryans both pointing to Harrisons intelligence and his ability to adapt quickly as reasons he has fit in so smoothly.
Now the next step is about volume and assertiveness, because Harrison has said he plans to be more aggressive in the games ahead. That will be worth watching as Houston tries to extend its winning streak against the New York Giants, a matchup that should offer another chance to see how much bigger his role can become in this offense.
