The Edmonton Oilers will open training camp without four players expected to be on the injury list.
Forward Matt Savoie and goaltender Frederik Andersen are not expected to take part while they rehab injuries suffered in offseason training sessions, the team said Wednesday. Edmonton also said forward Mattias Janmark and defenseman Alec Regula are unlikely to be ready for camp as they recover from medical procedures done shortly after the 2025-26 season ended.
The Oilers did not give any timelines for when any of the four might return.
Savoie’s absence is the most notable. The 22-year-old is coming off a strong rookie season, one that ended with 18 goals and 19 assists in 82 games.
He found another gear as the season wore on, putting up 24 of his 37 points in the second half. A former ninth overall pick by the Buffalo Sabres in 2022, Savoie is projected to slot into a top-six role for Edmonton this season.
Andersen arrived in Edmonton on a one-year deal this offseason as the Oilers looked to deepen a goaltending group that also includes Tristan Jarry and Devon Levi. The 36-year-old’s regular season in Carolina was rough - he posted a .874 save percentage in 35 games for the Hurricanes - but he bounced back in the playoffs, where he carried a .910 mark and three shutouts for most of the run. He tweaked his knee in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, then started Game 3 before being replaced by Brandon Bussi and not returning for the rest of the series.
Janmark and Regula are also in the mix to help Edmonton in 2026-27 if they’re healthy, though both are currently expected to be out when camp begins.
