The Cleveland Charge have added another interesting piece in Kadary Richmond, a move that came as part of a four-team deal that sent wing Malaki Branham to the Osceola Magic, Orlando’s G-League affiliate. Cleveland also picked up a 1st round selection in the upcoming 2027 NBA G-League Draft from College Park.
Richmond’s NBA sample this season was tiny, but it offered a glimpse of what he can do. In three games with the Wizards, he averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.7 steals in about 22.3 minutes per game.
He also knocked down 62.5% of his shots, going 10-for-16 overall and 50.0% from long distance. Even in that brief run, he looked capable - though clearly still very much a developmental player.
Most of Richmond’s work came with the Capital City Go-Go, where his versatility stood out. The 6-6 guard averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 50.2% from the field and 36.5% from 3-point range.
A St. John’s product, Richmond uses his size and handle to get downhill and pressure the rim.
He’s not a burner off the dribble and he doesn’t win with elite athleticism, but he makes up for that with craft and creativity. Those traits show up in the pick-and-roll and when he’s attacking off the dribble, where his feel for the game helps him operate comfortably.
He brings value on the other end, too. Richmond has the length to bother opponents, with a 6'9" 1/2 wingspan, and he pairs that with strong anticipation.
He’s a real nuisance in passing lanes and has a knack for creating turnovers. In his limited NBA action, he posted a passing lane defense grade of A+, which landed in the 99th percentile, along with a 92nd percentile pick pocket rating.
The rebounding is part of the package as well; he finished the G-League regular season with a defensive rebounding rate of 16.1%.
The biggest area he still needs to clean up is the jumper. Richmond hit 36.5% of his threes with the Go-Go in 2025-26, but he only attempted 2.6 per game. That volume needs to climb if he’s going to become a more complete threat from the perimeter.
For Cleveland, the bet is pretty clear: if Richmond keeps developing, the Charge may have found someone who can eventually push toward the Cavaliers’ pro-level roster. It’s a familiar path, too - the organization has already seen a Charge pickup lead to a two-way opportunity with Riley Minix. Time will tell whether Richmond follows that same route.
